OCEAN CLUB, TURKS & CAICOS

Sunset

If you choose Turks & Caicos, you've made a good decision. This is reputed to be the island where Columbus first set foot in the New World, and it hasn't changed much since then. McDonald's and McCivilization have yet to arrive.

The area is famous for its snorkeling, sailing (highly recommended is a private day trip on the catamaran called the Beluga), and great small hotels, Not much shopping or sightseeing in Providenciales, but it makes up for it in its charm and small-town, everyone-knows-each-other atmosphere.

Grace Bay Club nearby is the most upscale place, but if you're staying a while, and with your family, you might want to look into the Ocean Club. They have longer-term rentals of units with several bedrooms and a kitchen.

It's a friendly spot, and at the same time each day, the guests gather around the steps leading to the beach to watch the sun as it goes down. Not surprising, since the sunset is the only thing that's more beautiful than the beach.
